WEST BANK YOUTH CAFE IS A BIG SUCCESS

A NEW community Cafe for young people is up and running in West Bank, Widnes thanks to a group of local volunteers called the 'Kitchen Invaders'. Led by Pamela Wallace, Karen Turner and Nema Bamber the Kitchen Invaders open the Base on Parsonage Road every Friday evening to give the young people a place to go where they can meet their friends in a safe environment.

The group has been working closely with Halton Borough Council's Community Development Team and the emergency services, in particular the Fire Brigade, to access funding for other activities. According to some of these services, anti-social behaviour has been significantly reduced in the area since the Base opened.

Low cost food and snacks are available to visitors and although this is not a traditional youth club, groups can get a drink and chat with their friends. Young people can also have a game of football on the nearby school sports field.

The group is now trying to gain funding so that the cafe can be opened more often and they are looking for more volunteers. If you would like more information or would like to help out in any way, please contact the group through Adele Clarke, Community Development Officer, on 0151 906 4800
